Getting Prepared for Mathematics Section of the OGT

OGT Practice Test
Give us your opinion about OGT testing.

I talked to four high school students today and I asked them what sections of the OGT were they worried about being prepared to pass. They all unanimously agreed it was Math and Science. In this post I will cover what students need to know in Math to be prepared for the upcoming OGT, and ways to get prepared.

The OGT Mathematics section has 38 questions, 32 of which that are multiple-choice and, five are short-answer, and one is an extended-response question. Each mathematics question assesses concepts and skills that are related to one of the five major areas of mathematics. Make sure you practice the following types of Math problems as this is what the OGT consists of; Number, Number Sense and Operations; Measurement; Geometry and Spatial Sense; Patterns, Functions and Algebra; and Data Analysis and Probability.

A diagnostic tool, such as The OGT Practice Test Tool by IQ-ity, which was designed specifically for Ohio schools, will helps students learn what they need to know for the Math section as well as helping educators identify the specific areas of weakness that their students might have, and it will also help teachers to adjust their classroom instruction to meet the needs of their students.

Students should also follow these tips. Use 3 x 5 cards with formulas, key vocabulary, properties, examples, and facts. Test yourself and write or say aloud important points, use other math books as reference, take a few practice tests, make sure you are familiar with using the OGT calculator and after all this preparation, students to get a good rest the night before and eat a good breakfast on test day.
