The OGT and Ohio Weather

OGT Practice Test
Give us your opinion about OGT testing.

The OGT is mandatory to pass in order to graduate. It is very important for students to be in school and be preparing for the OGT. The weather in Ohio is causing a lot of headaches. In Ohio, schools are allowed five calamity days off out of the required 175 school days that are mandated by the state each year. These calamity days cover anything from weather problems to flu outbreaks and to broken water mains.

Once a school uses over five days, it must add school days to the school calendar, cutting into summer vacation, creating Saturday school, or taking away holiday vacation days such as president’s day. This is what the Waverly School District is doing Monday February 19th. The district was scheduled to off Monday but because of missing so much school due to the weather students will be attending school Monday. Easter break will also be affected and students will be going to school a few days past when school should have let out for summer break. Winter is not even over yet. More days of school may be canceled causing more problems for all Ohio School Districts.

With the New OGT that students must take in order to graduate, missing school is causing problems for students in practicing for the OGT. Ohio Schools are doing everything they can to make sure that even with all the missed days of school that students are getting adequate time to study and prepare. However, the task is not a easy one with mother nature causing such bad weather and schools having to cancel classes.

Teachers are giving students assignments to take home and study when they hear the weather may interrupt school again and parents are also making sure that student’s study for the OGT. Many student's are also using online prep tools while not in school to get that needed study time. Parents, Students and Teachers are working together to ensure the weather does not interfere with being fully prepared for the OGT.
