Ohio Graduation Test: Testing starts March 12th
|
March 12th is just around the corner, in a week students in Ohio school districts will be taking one of the most important if not the most important test of their educational experience. The Ohio Graduation Test will decide who obtains their diploma of the 2007 class. This is the first year that passing the Ohio Graduation Test is mandatory in order for students to receive their high school diploma.
More than 30,000 Ohio students began their senior year still needing to pass one or more parts of the Ohio Graduation Test, the exam that must be passed to get a diploma. That is about 22 percent of the 2007 Ohio graduating class.
This year's graduating classes are required to master the five-part test, a much more difficult test than its predecessor. So difficult, in fact, that the state officials lowered the grading scale that is needed to pass the Ohio Graduation Test after a very large number of students flunked the test during a trial run.
Students who are now high school seniors first took the Ohio Graduation Test when they were sophomores. Those who failed to pass the exam have been retaking it ever since. These seniors get another shot March 12th, the day the next round of testing begins. Some districts will offer the seniors yet another chance to take the test this summer, if they still haven’t passed each section.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors will all start taking the Ohio Graduation Test on March 12th at all Ohio school districts. This will be a stressful time for students. Testing is always a time of great stress for students, however with so much relying on passing this test the stress level is even higher than with other tests. This is especially true for the Ohio’s school districts seniors. These students know this is their last shot to pass all sections of the exam in order to get their high school diploma.
Parents need to get involved to try and help their children be prepared for the Ohio Graduation Test and help reduce the stresses associated with preparing. Online tools such as Iq-itys practice prep tool can be utilized at home by the students in helping them practice for the test. Parents should also make sure their child gets plenty of rest the night before they are to take any testing and eat a healthy breakfast before leaving for school.
Reassure your child that you have confidence they will do their best and with plenty of studying they can pass the OGT and be ready for what the future brings them.
