Ohio Graduation Test - Licking County Private Schools

An article in the Newark Advocate reports that students at some of Licking County's private high schools fared better on the Ohio Graduation Tests than public school students. At Newark Catholic High School, 79 % of their students passed all five subjects needed for the OGTs, beating out all schools except Granville High School, where over 81 percent of students passed. 87 % of Granville Christian Academy sophomores passed all five tests, making the academy's overall scores higher than any other high school in the county. Ohio Graduation Test - Licking Count Public Schools

The Licking County's public school districts majority saw an increase in the percentage of students passing the Ohio Graduation Tests this year. This is according to preliminary test results.

Of the 10 districts six saw an increase in the percentage of students scoring proficient or above in all five subjects, and the remaining four had a decrease in the total number of students passing the five subjects. Of the 10 districts Granville schools had the highest percentage of students passing the test at 81.2 percent. To read more go here.

Ohio Graduation Test: Licking County Schools Test Schedule

Licking Valley High school students are getting ready to start taking the Ohio Graduation Tests and the school has sent out reminders for the schedule for the testing. The Ohio Graduation Test runs from March 12th through March 16th 2007. If students do not have a test finished in the first hour and 20 minutes they will be allowed another hour and 10 minutes to finish the test.

March 12th is the day for the reading section, March 13th is the day for the math section, March 14th is the day for the writing section, March 15th is the day for the science section and March 16th is the day students will take the social studies section. Students in Ohio must pass all 5 sections of the Ohio Graduation Test by the time of graduation in order to receive their diploma.

Students who do not have to take a Ohio Graduation Test do not have to be at school until 10 a.m. If students ride a bus to school and then those students not taking tests will remain in study hall until 10 a.m.

Sophomores are required to take all five tests as are juniors and seniors who did not pass one or all of the tests. Students taking the tests must be at school at 7:30 A.M to begin testing. Students required to take the Ohio Graduation Test have access to the school’s web-based test preparation site, they can access this at home also and the school is encouraging students to spend more time at this site to be better prepared for the tests.
