Ohio Graduation Test - Common Math Test
|
The Ohio Graduation Test evaluates what a student knows. Making sure that they have enough education to go on to college. Starting with the the 2006-2007 school year it became mandatory for Ohio school district students to pass the OGT in order to graduate. Now nine states have come together for a common math test.
The nine states which include Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Arkansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. have come together for the first time to develop a common high school math test. State standards, and tests based on them, vary greatly for subjects as basic as Math, English and Science.
These states however have decided to share a test and standards for Algebra II. They all agree on one thing and that is that a subject like Algebra II should not vary across state lines.
This is a state-led effort to create conforming standards and assessments. Students will not always live in the state they attend school and officials feel it would be best if all states agree on what skills students should have. To read more about the common math test go here.
